Field Shelter Engineer Assistant

Duration        : 5 Months.

Job Purpose:
The Field Shelter Engineer Assistant plays a pivotal role in supporting the Field Shelter Engineer in the comprehensive execution of engineering-related tasks within project activities. This role is designed to contribute to the technical aspects of house rehabilitation, renewable energy supply, and school rehabilitation projects, under the guidance and supervision of the Field Shelter Engineer and Project Manager. The primary objective is to assist in ensuring the meticulous preparation of Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and maintaining stringent quality standards throughout the implementation process.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Field Shelter Engineer in preparing detailed Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for house rehabilitation, renewable energy supply, and school rehabilitation projects, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Take an active role in implementing and maintaining quality control measures to ensure adherence to engineering standards throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Assist in the systematic documentation of project phases, including photo documentation, and ensure proper storage of relevant documents for easy retrieval.
  • Accompany the Field Shelter Engineer on field visits to project sites, actively monitoring and assessing the progress of engineering activities, and promptly reporting any findings or issues.
  • Provide technical support and expertise to address engineering challenges that may arise during the projects, actively proposing solutions and contributing to their successful resolution.
  • Compile and analyse data related to engineering requirements, project milestones, and performance indicators, and prepare periodic reports for the Field Shelter Engineer.
  • Actively participate in training sessions and capacity-building activities to enhance technical skills and deepen understanding of engineering principles.
  • Contribute to the planning process of projects by assisting in the development of engineering plans, strategies, and timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with the Field Shelter Engineer to ensure that all engineering activities adhere to safety standards and regulations, promoting a culture of safety within the project team.
  • Undertake any other tasks or responsibilities delegated by the Field Shelter Engineer to ensure the smooth execution of engineering-related functions within the projects, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
 
Education, Experience & Competencies:
  • Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or any related field.
  • 2 years’ relevant experience in same field.
  • Experience at preparing various engineering reports.
  • Knowledge and understanding of construction management.
  • Experience in preparing Bill of Quantity (BOQ) and budgets.
  • Experience in implementing Cash for Work and or Voucher Cash Transfer is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in field-related activities, specially, in the field of cash/food for work in the rural areas.
  • Experience in working with water and sanitation projects in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Thinking both creatively and logically to resolve design and development problems.
  • Ability to explain design ideas and plans clearly.
  • Willing and capable of adopting a questioning attitude.
  • Good level of English language both spoken and writing
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts.
  • NGO or humanitarian work experience.
