Reports to        : FSL Civil Engineer.

Job Purpose:
As a Food Security and Livelihood (FSL) Civil Engineer Assistant, your primary purpose is to support FSL programs and projects that focus on improving food security and livelihood opportunities in communities. You will work closely with the FSL Civil Engineer and other project team members to ensure the effective implementation of infrastructure and engineering-related activities.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Planning and Design: Assist in the planning and design of infrastructure projects related to food security and livelihood, such as irrigation systems, water supply systems, agricultural infrastructure, and rural roads. Collaborate with the FSL Civil Engineer to develop project plans, engineering designs, and cost estimates.
 
  • Construction Management: Support the management and supervision of construction activities, including site preparation, earthworks, structural installations, and infrastructure development. Monitor construction progress, quality, and adherence to project specifications and standards.
 
  • Technical Assistance: Provide technical support to the FSL Civil Engineer and project team members in the implementation of engineering solutions. Assist in interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and design documents.
 
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and engagement throughout the project implementation. Facilitate community participation and involvement in decision-making processes.
 
  • Quality Assurance: Assist in implementing quality control measures to ensure the construction and infrastructure development activities meet the required standards. Conduct regular inspections and tests to verify compliance with design specifications and industry best practices.
 
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Support the monitoring and evaluation of project activities and outcomes. Collect and analyze data related to project progress, impact, and performance indicators. Prepare reports and contribute to the assessment of project effectiveness.
 
Qualifications, Experiences, and Competencies:
 
  • University Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, relevant disciplines, or equivalent field experience.
  • 1+ year related experience and some supervisory experience; or equivalent training experience. 
  • Considerable Experience in implementing FSL/Cash for Work and or Voucher Cash Transfer is required.
  • Continuous studying and training in the job is required.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Effective use of computers – Word and Excel and preferably a design and drawing software (Autocad, Reviet, etc.).
  • Oral and written language skills in English.
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts.
  • NGO or humanitarian programming experience.
