Field WASH & Shelter Engineer Assistant

Job Propose:
The Field WASH & Shelter Engineer Assistant will assist in the identification, design, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of the progress of community construction and rehabilitation projects in the assigned districts. Heshe will provide day-to-day field management support, supervision, and technical assistance to WASH, Shelter, and community projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in conducting shelter and physical infrastructure needs assessments in IDP sites.
  • Assist in conducting water and sanitation needs assessments, evaluating available resources, and assessing the capacity of existing systems in IDP sites.
  • Support the preparation of technical drawings, specification lists, and Bills of Quantities for rehabilitation and installations.
  • Assist in the regular monitoring and maintenance of shelter and infrastructure situations in the sites.
  • Coordinate closely with WASH and Shelter stakeholders and public institutions.
  • Manage and update relevant project activity information.
  • Maintain proper and timely communication with the Field WASH & Shelter Engineer/ Project Manager regarding project implementation needs through weekly reports or ad hoc requests.
  • Support the development of Bills of Quantities for works in coordination with the Field WASH & Shelter Engineer/ Project Manager and Logistic Specialist.
  • Assist in supervising daily implementing tasks and activities, including direct supervision of implementing contractors to ensure accurate implementation of WASH and shelter interventions.
  • Consider gender, protection, and GBV concerns in all aspects of activities.
  • Assist in managing beneficiaries and ensuring comprehensive briefings on the objective, expected output, and overall implementation strategy of any given activity.
  • Submit necessary field reports to the Field WASH & Shelter Engineer/ Project Manager, including weekly and monthly reports, distribution reports, meeting minutes, etc.
  • Perform other relevant tasks as requested by the Field WASH & Shelter Engineer/ Project Manager.
 
Qualifications, Experience & Skills:
  • University Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, Architecture, relevant disciplines, or equivalent field experience.
  • At least one year related experience and some supervisory experience; or equivalent training experience. 
  • Continuous studying and training in the job is required.
  • Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Effective use of computers – Word and Excel and preferably a design and drawing software (Autocad, Reviet, etc.).
  • Oral and written Language skills in English.
  • Registration with a relevant professional authority in Yemen.
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts.
  • NGO or humanitarian programming experience.
