Marib Al Wadi,
YFCA , funded by YHF, initiated a critical activity to empty and desludge 600 cubic meters of full and overflowing cesspits and septic tanks. This activity is part of Provision of integrated life-saving health, nutrition, WASH interventions for the most vulnerable communities including cholera outbreak hotspots in Ma'rib Al Wadi at Marib & Khab wa ASha'f at Aljawf.project.
The desludging operation, which began on July 15th, has already seen the removal of 185 cubic meters of waste from cesspits and septic tanks. This effort aims to mitigate the spread of cholera outbreaks in IDP collective sites and the surrounding areas most affected in Marib Al Wadi district.
YFCA partnered with a service provider to continue the desludging process using sewage suction trucks. The extracted waste is being safely discharged into the wastewater drainage system or secure septic tanks within the district.
The initial phase of the desludging work has been completed in the Alhsoon area of Marib Al Wadi district, benefiting 395 individuals so far. The initiative is set to expand its operations in the coming weeks, reaching more communities in need.
This proactive measure by YFCA underscores their commitment to improving sanitation and public health conditions for vulnerable populations in Yemen.
