In the inception of the training workshop, Ms. Huda Jahlan, the Reproductive Health Manager of Health Office of MoPH&P in Amran stated the importance of the training workshop in reducing morbidity and mortality of newborns and mothers. Due to the ongoing fighting in Amran, the Reproductive Health services were seriously affected.

She reported that starting 2011 Amran suffers from the absence of the Reproductive Health services funded by international donors which affected the community especially for women and children.

Most of midwives attended in this training are living in those affected areas. Ms. Jahlan hoped that the training activities will include the gender-based violence as well. She hailed YFCA’s efforts in Amran to promote the Reproductive Health services for at-risk women.

Dr. Fares Al-Waeel, YFCA Project Manager of Enhancement of the Reproductive Health for IDPs and Affected Communities Project stated that this workshop was attended by 20 midwives from respective districts of Amran to build their capacity in Reproductive Health to respond to emergency situations in Hajja and Amran.

He added that the project will be implemented in a timeline of six months in both governorates of Hajja and Amran.  This workshop is one of workshop series that YFCA will conduct in Amran under the auspice of Health Office of MoPH&P in Amran and funded by Emergency Response Fund (ERF) to promote the skills of midwives in Reproductive Health and Family Planning in the respective districts of Amran to reduce the morbidity and mortality of newborns and mothers.

Dr. Al-Waeel elaborated that the six-day training workshop will focus on how to deal with the Reproductive Health in Emergencies such as antenatal services and distribution of clean-delivery kits. The trainees will be exposed to skills such as counseling, family planning and home visiting.

The inauguration of the training workshop was attended by Ms. Asia Jahlan, the YFCA project coordinator in Amran and Dr. Nabehha Al-Abhar, the trainer.
