In the inauguration of the workshop, Dr. Fares Al-Waeel stated that the key objective of this workshop is to capacitate the hairdressers about the population growth rates, the health status indicators, the importance of birth spacing and the modern methods of family planning.

Female hairdressers can transfer this knowledge to their female clients especially for those who will get married soon. He added that this workshop is conducted as part of the social marketing project which helps to raise awareness and behavioral change about the family planning and HIV.

He concluded that that another two similar workshops will be conducted in Aden and Hodeida targeting 30 female hairdressers working in these governorates.

Dr. Jamal Badar Al-Aghbari, the manager of Social Marketing Project at Yaman Health Development said that the female hairdressers are considered as important category of society for their close contact with the women community as the hairdressers spend much time with their clients in talking about variety of family and public issues, thus the family planning training for them is crucial.

He added that this training workshop will be led by professional trainers in Family Planning, he hoped that the trainees will transfer this knowledge to other women and clients to enhance the knowledge about population growth rates, the health status indicators, the importance of birth spacing, and the modern methods of family planning.
