Responding to Gender-based Violence (GBV)

A training course was conducted (yesterday) in Sana’a for healthcare providers in responding to Gender-based Violence (GBV), which organized for five days between November 17 and  21. The training was organized by Yemeni Family Care Association (YFCA) in partnership with the Reproductive Health in crisis situation project of the United Nations Fund for Population (UNFPA).

The relief and surveillance officer  Dr. Fares Al-Waeil of YFCA said  that the training session involves about 30 participants of health care providers from several governorates (Sana'a , Aden , Al Jawf , Hajjah , Amran , Abyan , Lahej and Saada ), it aims to build the capacity of staff in the provision of health services and mental health of the victims of GBV .

He stated that the session will address several topics include methods and stages of dealing with a victim of rape, sexually transmitted diseases and methods of detection , prevention and treatment , as well as the methods of documentation and monitoring of cases of sexual abuse , rehabilitation and follow-up rape victim , in addition to issues of female circumcision , marriage of young females , family planning, abortion , reproductive and genetic technology .


He added that the participants in the session will gain concepts and skills of how to respond to GBV where they will be exposed to the concepts of GBV and its types including ways of monitoring and documentation, as well as providing psychological support to victims of violence .



He pointed out that a team of specialists in GBV will lead this training for five days , including Prof. Dr. Nabil Hizam Hammadi , head of forensic at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sana'a and Dr. Mohammed Khulaidi, a psychiatry specialist.
