An awareness seminar held in the capital Sana’a about breast cancer and the importance of early detection, the seminar was organized by the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) entitled (For your health ... Check now) targeted a number of civil society organizations, media, educators, social and health workers, and government and private agencies.
At the opening of the seminar, Dr. Fares Al-Waeel delivered a speech on behalf of the Yemeni Family Care Association (YFCA) in which he stressed on the importance of holding this seminar to encourage the early detection of breast cancer. He added that everyone in the community should acquire the necessary awareness and grasp the seriousness of this disease, especially since some studies indicate that the incidence of death resulting from infection with the disease had reached to (677) cases in 2008. Stressing the importance of the role played by the competent centers that provide detection for free to assist to reduce this ratio.
Dr. Yasmeen Al-Tawqi, the seminar coordinator, highlighted in her speech that conducting this awareness seminar is part of the role of YFCA to participate and contribute to awareness dissemination and promotion of breast cancer especially with regard to the importance of early detection.
She added that the seminar aims to educate attendees about breast cancer: signs, effects, early detection, right perception of the community about breast cancer and the consolidation of alternative positive concepts, in addition to promote conducting studies and statistics for scientific research, urge to communicate with competent centers when noticing any protrusion or unnatural bump, especially as the scanning is free.
The participants also reviewed a study on breast self-examination presented by Dr. Haifa Haroon Al-Wajeh in which she presented the mechanism of early detection of breast cancer, in addition, a movie entitled ”Smile Loss” was screened.
