Maintaining personal and environmental hygiene is as necessary as food and water to maintain good health. Proper hygiene can save their lives and protect them from deadly diseases.
Therefore, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) conducted 100 awareness sessions on hygiene promotion in nine areas of five districts - Shabwah governorate through 50 members of community hygiene volunteers (CHVs) in June,2022.
The sessions explained the key hygiene promotion messages as follows:
• Water-borne diseases
• Vector-borne diseases
• Waste safe disposal
• Water treatment
• Symptoms and prevention methods from Corona Virus (COVID-19)
The number of attendees in June, 2022 had reached 1268 individuals including women, men, boys and girls. Also, the sessions targeted IDPs, Marginalized and host communities.
This activity is considered one of the activities for the WASH project and humanitarian food assistance for IDPs, host communities, returnees, and marginalized groups in six districts of Shabwah Governorate-Yemen, which is funded by the German Federal Foreign Ministry (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
Moreover, this activity has aimed to raise awareness in the targeted community of water and health-related attitudes. As well as to reduce the incidence of diseases and change the community behaviors. Eventually, the population in targeted communities have sustained access to safe drinking water.
