Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) has been serving Yemeni families since 1976. As a pioneer in promoting reproductive rights and health in Yemen, it excelled in service provision, education and advocacy.
IN’TRODUCTION
Its quality reproductive health services have been accessed throughout the years by men, women,youth and children in Sana’a and other governorates.
YFCA capacity building programs have benefited the government, civil society organizations, and private service providers. Its awareness raising programs have targeted thousands of Yemeni population. In addition YFCA have been an important advocacy actor in the area of reproductive rights and safe motherhood at the policy level.
Years 2011 and 2012 have been very challenging for YFCA by all means. Located in a geographical area where armed conflicts were not far, YFCA have struggled in 2011 to keep its premises safe and its programs flowing.
In addition to withdrawal of significant international funds earmarked to reproductive health Yemen, turnover of technical staff and evacuation of international technical expertise have affected the work of all stakeholders in the field.
Nevertheless, YFCA has not only continued its work but also expanded its services in conflict affected areas. Thus,YFCA launched its programs in emergency reproductive
health services and gender-based violence that respond to humanitarian needs.
YFCA has worked in the past two years in partnership with the Yemeni government, civil society, local community and religious leaders as well as national level policy makers and local health professionals.
While international funding was dwindling due to security reasons, YFCA has focused its efforts to sustain its internal resources. To a good extent the association management was able to achieve a brilliant success in this regard through the expansion of income-generating activities, attracting cash donations, quality management and institutionalization as well as segmentation , customizing and diversification of services in SpecializedSafe Motherhood Hospital and the 6 health centers in the governorates, all of that enabled functioning with financial autonomy and generate income to sustain the operational costs of YFCA.
During 2011-2012, YFCA staff has worked together and in partnership with local and international agencies to enhance good governance and strengthen quality assurance measures in parallel to program implementation. YFCA also analyzed on its Monitoring and Evaluation processes and identified gaps where actual steps have been taken to fill. This report marks the most important achievements of YFCA during years 2011 and 2012, and hopes that with its continuous efforts and struggle for excellence can keep the promise of a better life for tens of thousands
of women and families in Yemen..
