Anhar Mohamed, a pregnant mother of four children, was forced to move to a remote village in Thi-sufal district of Ibb governorate with her family; as they could no longer afford to rent a house in the city. One day, while her husband was working on his motorcycle, he was involved in a terrible accident, leaving him unable to work for three months. With their already limited resources, Anhar’s pregnancy with her fifth child posed an even greater burden, as they were unable to cover the cost of delivering the baby. Fortunately, Anhar heard through other mothers of a free basic obstetric and newborn care service provided by the Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) in Thi-sufal Rural Hospital, funded by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). As the pain from her pregnancy increased, Anhar and her husband decided to go to the hospital to seek out the free medical help and ensure her safety. Upon arriving, Anhar was warmly welcomed by the midwife, who was surprised to find that Anhar was already in the ninth month of pregnancy and was about to give birth at any moment.
