Funded by UNFPA, Yemen Family Health Care Association recently conducted a field visit to Al-Makhalia in Alhudaidah Governorate. This visit was organized by a volunteer team nominated by Obal Center in Makhalia area and aimed to promote awareness about the importance of taking care of the mother and the baby during breastfeeding. One of the 2500 beneficiaries of this initiative is a 21-year-old mother named Angham, who was feeding her newborn with livestock milk. Upon examination of the mother and the baby, it was discovered that the baby was having persistent diarrhea and weight loss. When asked why she was not breastfeeding her child, Angham confessed that she did not know how to handle the situation, how to make her little one latch onto her nipple, or how to hold the child while breastfeeding. Additionally, she thought that livestock milk was better for her child’s health.
