Marar Arouk village is one of the remote villages in Haifan district-Ta'iz governorate, which has no access to any of the humanitarian services. The most important of which is the health services, where the residents need to walk for more than an hour to reach the nearest health facility. Due to the difficult living situation in this village and the lack of awareness of the importance of food security, Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) is obviously spread over the area, affecting children under five years old, pregnant and lactating women.

Since YFCA usually reaches the hardest to intervene areas and contributes in saving people’s lives. Through the WFP fund, YFCA implemented the life-saving Blanket Supplementary Feeding Program (BSFP) to reach those who are in high need of health and nutrition services.

While the volunteer was conducting malnutrition screening for children (6-59 months) and malnourished mothers, Almah was found. Almah Yusuf Thabet Ahmed is 30 years old woman. In the beginning of her pregnancy with her fourth child, she was suffering from severe exhaustion and fatigue to the extent that she hindered her attention to her children. After taking her physical measurements, Almah’s mid-arm measured (22 cm). "I felt very weak and tired most of the time, which made me worry about the health and safety of my fetus. As a result, I was not being able to take care of my children as imposed." Almah mentioned bitterly.
Through this program, Almah immediately was transferred to the nearest health unit, Al-Merar Araouk Unit. Hence, she was informed about the program’s treatment services and received assigned quantities of medicines as well as she was illuminated with related awareness. Three months later, she began to feel active and was able to take care of herself and her babies again. When the MUAC screening was taken again to her, the measurement of the mid-arm perimeter after treatment was 23.9 centimeters, which shows a tangible improvement in her physical health.

After she completed the course of treatment within the BSFP, she was enrolled in the preventive program to continue receiving nutritional supplementary quantities until the end of the sixth month of lactation.  "Recently, her health state has deteriorated considerably, affecting the psyche of the children and making them cry all the time. After the services provided by YFCA, my wife’s health state is getting better and better, and we cannot wait for our coming child." Almah’s husband said gratefully.
