Al-Jufaina camp is located in the Marib City district - Marib governorate, where it is sectioned into many regions (blocks). The tenth block is the most densely populated, as it shelters more than 1,200 displaced families; with approximately 8,400 individuals. Like many camps, the situation in the Al-Jufainah camp is tough and IDPs cannot easily access water. Years ago, one of the humanitarian actors constructed two water points with a capacity of 20,000 liters in the tenth block. However, they were not supplied with water due to the existence of fractions in the pipeline, as well as the inability of the previous network to supply water all over the camp, including the tenth block. This caused an extra burden on IDPs that they had to pay for water trucking while they are suffering to afford for food and for their basic needs.
From this point forward, YFCA being funded by YHF has coordinated with the National Rural Water Authority (NRWA) in Marib governorate and installed a main water network for the entire camp from the tower tank which is considered as the main water source of the camp. Besides, YFCA installed thirteen water points with a capacity of 5000 liters and connected them to the previous two points with a capacity of 20000 liters, so that the largest number of the resident IDPs can be reached.
On the other hand, when the study of the water network was prepared, it was structured that the water network would be the main water network for Al-Jufainah camp. Therefore, the current interventions for the camp’s network expansion by other humanitarian actors would be extending the internal water network by connecting sub-networks from the main water network which was constructed by YFCA.
What is more important is that the IDPs were grateful for the implemented intervention that eased their access to safe and clean water. Like the IDPs, the local authorities thanked YFCA at the WASH cluster meeting for implementing this WASH intervention and following the standards and specifications of the work. “We couldn’t be more thankful for such a valuable intervention.” One of the local authorities’ representatives mentioned.
