Maintaining personal and environmental hygiene is just as necessary as food and water to maintain good health. Proper hygiene can save lives and protect the world from the deadly diseases. Therefore, Yemen Family Care Association (YFCA) conducted 100 awareness sessions on hygiene promotion in nine areas of five districts of Shabwah governorate through 50 community hygiene volunteers (25 Females and 25 Males) in July 2022.
The sessions explained the key hygiene promotion messages as follows:
• Water-borne diseases
• Vector-borne diseases
• Waste safe disposal
• Water treatment
• Symptoms and prevention methods of COVID-19
The number of the sessions' attendees within July 2022 reached 1259 individuals including women, men, boys and girls. Moreover, the sessions targeted IDPs, Marginalized, returnees and host communities.
This activity is considered one of the activities for the project of WASH and humanitarian food assistance for IDPs, host communities, returnees, and marginalized groups in six districts of Shabwah Governorate-Yemen, which is funded by the German Federal Foreign Ministry (AA) in partnership with Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe (DKH).
This activity is aimed to raise awareness of the targeted community for water and health related attitudes that reduce the incidence of diseases in health centers and change the community behaviors. Besides, the population in the targeted communities have sustained access to safe drinking water.
